Mineral Properties (Geomodules) Kit

Each box contains a collection of minerals that exhibit cleavage, hardness, fracture, and specific gravity.

Number of Kits Available: 1

This kit contains four different Geomodule sets produced by GeoScience/Omni Resources in Burlington, NC. Each set demonstrates a different physical property used in mineral identification, and include:

  • Cleavage Set: Six minerals that illustrate different cleavage patterns. Cleavage refers to the tendency for a mineral to break along a smooth, planar surface.

  • Fracture Set: Six minerals that illustrate different types of fracture. Fracture refers to the way in which minerals randomly break along irregular surfaces, in contrast with cleavage.

  • Hardness Set: nine minerals that demonstrate hardnesses 1 through 9 of the Moh's Hardness Scale. Hardness is a mineral's resistance to scratching or abrasion.

  • Specific Gravity Set: Six minerals that illustrate a range of specific gravities. Specific gravity refers to the ratio of the mass of the rock to the mass of an equal volume of water, or in other words, it is a way to measure the mineral's density.
